The story

The Arts and Crafts Centre was created within the ARTEC (Arts / Rediscovery / Traditions / Eclectic / Contemporary) project, a two-year programme co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union that is ongoing between 2015-2017. The Centre is located at Bánffy Castle, BonÈ›ida (Cluj Co., Romania), one of the largest castles of Transylvania, with a rich and colourful past. Having been burned down in 1944 and nationalised, then abandoned during the Communist Period, the main, residential building of the castle needed to be revived. Thus, in 2016, the Transylvania Trust launched a call for applications to reconceptualise several rooms of the main building. We have received applications from several European countries. The selected designs were implemented during the summer of 2016, with the official opening of the Arts and Crafts Centre shortly after, in September.

The present site relates about the present project and its activities, gives a brief glimpse into the historical background of the Centre's site, and publishes expert articles about the research and conservation of built heritage.
