Artists and Craftsmen in Residence - OR


As the main activity of the ARTEC projects's second year, we have launched a call for artists, craftsmen, students, etc. for two artists and craftsmen in residence programmes. The first artistic residency was launched with the topic OR - Organic Reality, implemented between 21 August and 3 September 2017, under the guidance of artist KALLÓ Angéla.

Human existence is, to a greater or lesser extent, the accumulation of certain decisions – taken or imposed. It is a continuous oscillation between at least two points, which are not at all fixed. Furthermore, the decision is nothing more than the projection of an earlier action, that of choosing. We often find ourselves in the situation of having to choose... paths, perspectives, destinies, things, people... And here we end up considering another premise, the one preceding choice, that of options. Let us imagine a road that has reached a bifurcation or an intersection. This ramification may also include a state of impasse, of hindrance in the course of existence, which gives rise to a feeling and desire to change this state. The options are multiple. In which direction do we go? Left, right, forwards? I intentionally omitted mentioning backwards, because this option triggers another kind of mechanism that I will expand upon separately. Returning to the “unwalked” paths that are offered to us as possible options, these become, whichever we undertake, our way, our current path. It is a gesture of taking on something that might be familiar or recoverable, or something completely unknown.

And if our decision is one of resignation, of a return to the already walked path? It does not necessarily mean relinquishing a “different” journey, but rather remaining in a familiar, agreeable state.

However, if we venture into that “something else”, we transpose ourselves “differently” into an equation that is almost mathematical in nature, or rather into a logical problem regarding existence. It is like a game of chess that we play with a partner we can either call fate or destiny, or chance, or chaos, or...
